Monument Valley and the 4 Corners

As we headed out from the Grand Canyon, we drove along Rte. 163 through Monument Valley.  What a magnificent place it was!  So many "monuments".....huge rock formations with the mountains in the background.

But the REAL reason we came through this way on our way to Mesa Verde was two-fold:  one, I wanted to go to the 4 Corners, and two, Mike wanted to continue on where Forest Gump had stopped!

Run, Mike, run!!!

He was so happy!!!

After accomplishing this feat, we headed off to the 4 Corners.  What beautiful rock formations we saw along the way, including the Twin Rocks:

I never realized that the 4 Corners was actually on Native American land, and that it is not part of the National Park system.  It was well worth the $3.00 entry fee to be able to say I was in four states at once!

After a long, long day in the car, we arrived at Mesa Verde...........

From Mike:
There was nothing on the road to tell us where Forest Gump stopped running.  I had Googled it and found out it was on Route 163, off of 160.  Well, 163 is 100 miles long!  We just kept going and looking back over our shoulder until we found it!   I was psyched!
